Here at Pest Patrol, we receive numerous calls with all kinds of questions. Every now and then, people ask me about doing their own pest control. Although many might say I would never recommend that, it really all depends on a few things. Here are some things to consider:
- Type of pest
- Severity of infestation
- Knowledge of pests and applications.
- Equipment and materials required.
- Safety issues.
First, there are certain pests that I would always recommend calling a professional. A couple of examples would be termites and bed bugs. These pests are very hard to treat by an average homeowner.
I also would like to know your pest tolerance. That compounded with the severity of the population would have to be considered. Will it require more specialty equipment than a homeowner has? Can the homeowner get the proper materials to treat a specific pest? Optionally, if the infestation is only 1 or 2 bugs, you can pick them up with a paper towel and dispose.
Finally, there is always the concern of safety. What precautions does the pesticide label require? You must follow product directions not only for personal safety, but also environmental safety.
If you have any questions about residential or commercial services or simply need a pest identified, call or text Pest Patrol at 325-673-6700 or search us at westtexaspestpatrol.com.
